In a mixing bowl, blend together two tablespoons of brown sugar and one tablespoon each of onion powder, salt, paprika, pepper, garlic powder and ground mustard. Add 1 1/2 teaspoons of cumin and 1 1/2 teaspoons of chili powder. Mix well and rub a beef brisket with the mixture. Place the rubbed brisket into a resealable bag and refrigerate for eight hours. Place the beef brisket into the slow cooker and pour one cup of barbecue sauce over the meat. Cover and cook on low for six hours, and then increase the temperature to high for two hours or until the meat is fork-tender.

Another simple recipe combines a seven-ounce package of mixed dried fruit, 32 ounces of beef broth, and one-half teaspoon each of salt and pepper in a slow cooker. Add the beef brisket, cover and cook on low for 10 hours. After the meat is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and keep it warm. Add six tablespoons of flour to the slow cooker and increase the heat to high. Whisk the mixture until it is thickened and serve it with the beef brisket.
