Both Real Simple and Kraft feature simple recipes for ice cream cakes. Real Simple's recipe calls for heavy cream, confectioners' sugar, ice cream sandwiches and chocolate chips.
To make Real Simple's recipe, whip 1 cup of heavy cream with 2 tablespoons of confectioners' sugar until the peaks stiffen. After lining a loaf pan with parchment paper, unwrap some ice cream sandwiches, and layer them in the bottom, cutting them as necessary. Spoon half of the whipped topping onto the ice cream sandwiches, and then repeat the process with one more layer of each, ending with the whipped topping. Sprinkle the top of the cake with 1/2 cup of chopped chocolate chips, and freeze it for at least one hour before serving.
To make Kraft's recipe, line the edge of a pie plate with 14 whole Oreo cookies, and crush 10 more cookies. Save 1/2 cup of the crushed cookies, and layer the rest of them in the bottom of the dish. Spread 2 cups of softened strawberry ice cream onto the cookie crust, and layer 1 cup of whipped topping on top of it with the rest of the cookie crumbs. Spread 2 cups of softened chocolate ice cream onto the whipped topping, and serve with hot fudge ice cream topping.
