Using a food processor, blend four peeled garlic cloves until they are minced. Drain 2 cups of canned chickpeas and reserve the liquid. Add the chickpeas to the food processor with 1 1/2 teaspoons of kosher salt, 1/3 cup of tahini sesame paste, 6 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of liquid from the chickpeas and 8 dashes of hot sauce. Process the ingredients until the hummus reaches the consistency of a coarse puree. Taste the hummus and adjust the seasonings as necessary.
Food Network also offers some ideas for different variations of hummus on its site. Make a vibrant beet hummus by blending in roasted beets and topping with feta cheese and fresh dill. Create an olive hummus by blending in and topping with sliced olives. Spice up your hummus by using roasted garlic instead of raw garlic and blending in roasted red jalapeño peppers.
