Basic Barbecue Sauce
This easy barbecue sauce recipe will last in the refrigerator for a few months, and is a good beginner sauce for those who don't often spend time in the kitchen.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 to 15 minutes
Ready In: 20 minutes
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- 1 tablespoon Tabasco sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon any barbecue rub or seasoning
- Combine all the ingredients
- Bring to a boil and simmer
In a medium, non-reactive saucepan, combine all the ingredients together, stirring well.
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer until the sauce darkens and becomes the desired thickness, usually 10 to 15 minutes. Remove promptly from the heat.
To create different flavors, add in pineapple for a Caribbean kick, onions for a smokey sweetness or chopped jalapeno for heat. This sauce can be stored in a clean jar with an airtight lid for several months in the refrigerator.
