To make a simple ham, cook a smoked cut of pork at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 30 minutes per pound. Coat with a pineapple-honey glaze, and garnish with pineapple slices and Maraschino cherries. The finished dish yields 10 to 12 servings.
Gather one smoked shoulder of ham weighing between 5 to 7 pounds, a can of pineapple slices in juice, light brown packed sugar, honey, Maraschino cherries and whole cloves.
Discard the skin from the ham, and place the pork in a baking pan with the fat side up. Cover the ham with aluminum foil, and bake until a meat thermometer registers 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
Remove the pineapple slices from the can, and set aside 1/4 cup of strained juice. Mix the juice, 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 1/4 cup of honey in a saucepan. Simmer and stir over a low heat until the sugar liquefies.
Take the foil off the ham, and mark the fat side in a diamond-shaped pattern. Coat the ham with the pineapple-honey glaze. Position the pineapple slices and the cherries around the top of the meat, and secure the fruit in place with toothpicks. Garnish with cloves if desired, and apply the glaze again. Leave the ham uncovered, and bake for an additional 30 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit while continuing to apply the glaze.
