Some simple Chinese food recipes include fried rice, and chicken balls with sweet and sour sauce. Both recipes are from Food.com and take 30 minutes or less for preparation and cooking.
To make the batter for chicken balls, combine 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 cup cornstarch, 2 teaspoons baking powder, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1?2 teaspoon garlic powder, 2 teaspoons sugar and 1 1?3 cups cold water. Batter the chicken and fry. Make the sweet and sour dipping sauce by combining 1?2 cup of ketchup, 1 teaspoon of soy sauce, 1?3 cup of white vinegar, 1?2 cup of lightly packed brown sugar and 1 cup of white granulated sugar.
In a separate bowl, combine 3/4 cup of cold water or unsweetened pineapple juice and 3 tablespoons of cornstarch. Add to the ketchup and soy sauce mixture and whisk thoroughly. In a large saucepan, bring to a boil over medium heat, making sure to continue whisking. When the mixture begins to boil, reduce heat and continue to cook until the sauce has thickened. Allow to cool to room temperature.
To make a simple and easy fried rice, heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a wok and add 3/4 cup chopped onion. Saute until golden brown, and remove from wok.
In a small bowl, mix 1 lightly beaten egg with 3 drops of soy sauce. Add egg mixture to wok, and allow to cook. Remove, and chop into small pieces. Add 1/2 cup frozen peas, 1 cup of chopped carrots and cooked onion to wok, and fry for 2 minutes. Add in 4 cups of cooked rice, 4 chopped green onions and 2 cups of bean sprouts. Stir fry for three minutes in 2 tablespoons of light soy sauce. Fold in egg.
