The most basic bruschetta recipe uses Italian bread, extra virgin olive oil, and chopped up toppings such as tomato, onion and garlic. This classic recipe takes approximately 10 minutes to make.
The recipe can be prepared using the stove or the oven. Food.com prepares the bread for the recipe in an oven. Preheat it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut slices of Italian bread diagonally into thick pieces. Crack a clove of garlic, and spread it onto the bread, and then bake the bread until it is crispy or lightly browned.
While the bread is baking, dice tomato, onion and any other desired toppings, and stir he toppings in a bowl with olive oil, salt and pepper. Top each slice of bread with the mixture, and the bruschetta is ready to serve.
Rachel Ray provides an easy recipe for preparing bruschetta using the stove. Preheat a grill pan over medium heat. Coat the pan and the thickly sliced Italian bread, cut approximately three quarters of an inch thick, with extra virgin olive oil. Then grill the bread for approximately two minutes per side. Take the bread off of the heat, and rub each piece with garlic and more olive oil. Prepare the toppings in the same fashion, and cover the bread.
