A simple beef stroganoff recipe involves cooking steak strips with mushrooms, onions and spices. The creamy consistency of the stroganoff is created by adding sour cream to the steak mixture.
For a simple beef stroganoff, Paula Deen provides an easy-to-follow recipe on her website. The ingredients needed for this recipe include 1 and 1/2 pounds of round steak cut into strips, all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 sliced medium onion, 8 ounces of sliced fresh mushrooms, 1 can of beef broth, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup, 1 cup of sour cream, cooked egg noodles and House seasoning.
To make House seasoning, combine 1 cup of salt, 1/4 cup of black pepper and 1/4 cup of garlic powder. Season the steak strips with the House seasoning and dust lightly with all-purpose flour. Heat the olive oil and butter in a pan, and lightly fry the steak strips. Remove the steak from the pan and add the mushrooms and onions to the same pan. Sauté them until the onions are tender and lightly sprinkle flour over the mixture.
Place the steak back into the pan and add the beef broth and cream of mushroom soup. Cover the pan and cook for 30 minutes. Season the mixture with salt and pepper as needed. Add the sour cream just before serving. To serve, spoon the stroganoff on to the cooked egg noodles.
