CopyKat Recipes offers a recipe for chili that is similar to Wendy’s chili. This recipe requires approximately 15 minutes to prepare the ingredients, one and a half hours to cook and serves approximately 10 people. To make the chili, first brown 2 pounds of fresh ground beef in a skillet. If there is any excess grease, then drain it away.
Transfer the browned ground beef to a 6-quart pot, and add 1 quart of tomato juice, 1 29-ounce can of tomato puree, 1 15-ounce can of drained red beans and 1 15-ounce can of drained pinto beans. Dice 1 large onion or approximately 1 1/2 cups, 1/2 cup of celery and 1/4 cup of green bell pepper, and add these ingredients to the ground beef, beans and tomatoes.
Add 1/4 cup of chili powder to the pot. For a milder chili, you can reduce this amount. Add 1 teaspoon ground cumin or more if you desire more flavor. Season the chili with 1 teaspoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of oregano and 1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Add 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, and stir the ingredients to combine.
Cover the pot, and allow it to simmer for one to one and a half hours. Stir the chili every 15 minutes.
