There are many variations of the seven-layer Mexican dip, a popular and easy-to-make appetizer. Many of the most common recipes result in a layered dip that can be served with snacks such as chips or crackers.
Although recipes vary, a common version of seven-layer Mexican dip starts with a base layer of refried beans combined with a package of taco mix. The second layer is a combination of sour cream and softened cream cheese. Those layers are then topped with salsa and lettuce. Next, a mixture of tomatoes, green onions and green peppers is added. The dish is finished with layers of shredded cheddar cheese and sliced olives.
