Seltzer water is just as healthy and hydrating as regular water, according to experts. Some concerns may have developed over the carbonation in seltzer water having negative health effects, including kidney stones and stripped tooth enamel; however, these claims have not been backed by research.
Seltzer water, also known as sparkling water, is created by dissolving carbon dioxide in plain water, which creates carbonic acid. The process only adds bubbles to the water; the final beverage remains sugar-, calorie- and caffeine-free. Other types of carbonated water include tonic water, club soda and mineral water, but these types may have added ingredients like sweeteners, flavorings or sodium.
