The Schweppes Company became a part of the Dr Pepper Snapple Group in 2008. Before that, it had been a part of Cadbury Schweppes. The Schweppes Company existed as an individual Swiss entity from 1783 until 1969, when it merged with Cadbury.
Schweppes Ginger Ale has been in production since about 1870. This carbonated beverage is made from carbonated water flavored with ginger and sugar. Early versions of the drink were similar to ginger beer, except they were non-alcoholic.
The modern-day ginger ale produced by Schweppes is made from high fructose corn syrup, carbonated water, citric acid, the preservative sodium benzoate, caramel coloring and natural flavors, which are primarily ginger.
Schweppes is slightly sweet and light on the tongue with a high degree of carbonation. Some describe it as having a similar flavor to Seagram's Ginger Ale.
Customers can purchase Schweppes Ginger Ale in 1 and 2 liter bottles, 16 ounce bottles for personal use and 12 packs with 12 ounce cans. The company also produces a diet version of the drink.Learn more about Beverages
