Chicken and dumplings can easily be made with pre-made chicken broth and other previously prepared ingredients like canned and condensed cream of chicken soup and biscuits made from prepared dough available in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. By purchasing previously prepared ingredients, cooks can cut down on the time it takes to make the chicken and dumplings, and purchase fewer ingredients. A Pillsbury recipe for Easy Chicken and Dumplings requires only seven ingredients and it makes four servings.
Easy Chicken and Dumplings
Prep time: 30 minutes
Total time: 40 minutes
- 32 ounce carton of reduced-sodium chicken broth
- 3 cups of cooked chicken, shredded
- 10 3/4 ounce can of condensed cream of chicken soup
- 1/4 teaspoon of poultry seasoning
- 1 can, or 16.3 ounces of refrigerated buttermilk biscuits
- 2 chopped medium carrots
- 3 ribs of celery, chopped
- Boil the ingredients
- Prepare the dough
- Cook the dumplings
Use a Dutch oven to combine the liquids, chicken and seasoning. Heat the ingredients until they boil, then cover the pot with a lid and reduce heat to low and let simmer for 5 minutes. Bring up the heat so that the liquid reaches a low boil.
Remove the biscuit dough and separate the biscuits. Then, roll each one out until it is 1/8-inch thick. Cut the dough until it is divided into 1/2-inch wide strips.
Drop each strip into the boiling liquid in the Dutch oven, then add in the chopped carrots and celery and lower the heat. Cover the pot and allow to simmer for between 15 and 20 minutes.
