Some restaurants with healthy menus include Olive Garden, Denny’s, Mimi’s Cafe and P.F. Chang’s. There are also restaurants where many of the food options are on the healthier side, such as Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes.
Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes offer a variety of different soups, salads, breads and desserts. While many of the items are healthy, not all of them are low-fat or low in calories. The person must be educated on what items are healthiest to choose at the buffet restaurant. Vegetables at the salad bar are typically healthy, though cheese and dressing reduce the overall health value. Nonfat or low-fat dressings are usually available. Water and broth-based soups are healthier than the cream-based options.
Mimi’s Cafe is a casual dining restaurant that offers healthy versions of its classic dishes. For example, as of 2015, the restaurant offers a high-protein cheeseburger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun. There is an onion soup served without the cheese and dishes such as fish with steamed vegetables. P.F. Chang's has some high-fat items, such as lo mein beef, but also some healthier dishes, such as whole-grain brown rice, salmon and white chicken.
Denny’s has a Fit Fare section of the menu with healthier dishes. All of these dishes feature protein with vegetables and rice instead of French fries and other fatty sides. Most of the food is trans fat-free.
