There are several simple rum drinks. Mix a shot of rum, 3/4 ounce lime juice and 1/4 ounce of simple syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice to make a daiquiri, or use spiced rum, 3/4 ounce orange Curacao and 1 1/2 ounces of sour mix for a Cable Car.
A frozen pina colada is made by blending 2 ounces of rum, 6 ounces pineapple juice, 1 1/2 ounces cream of coconut and an ounce of heavy cream with 2 cups of ice until the mixture is smooth. To make a mojito, gently crush six mint leaves in a glass with 2 teaspoons of sugar and a splash of club soda. Add the juice from one lime, along with half of the lime, and stir in 2 ounces of rum. Fill the glass with ice and club soda.
The hurricane combines light and dark rum with passion fruit juice and orange juice for a colorful cocktail with a tropical flavor. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, and squeeze the juice from half a lime. Add 2 ounces of each rum, 2 ounces of passion fruit juice and 1 ounce of orange juice, along with a tablespoon of simple syrup and a tablespoon of grenadine. Shake well, and serve in a hurricane glass with an orange slice and a cherry.
