Polish meat with potatoes and stewed cabbage are some recipes for simple Polish traditional dishes. Both recipes make four servings. The first one takes 50 minutes to cook, and the second takes 55 minutes.
For Polish meat and potatoes, heat 1/4 cup of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook 1 chopped onion and 4 peeled and cubed potatoes for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Reduce the flame to medium and stir in 2 green bell peppers, cut into 1-inch pieces. Also, stir in 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Cover and cook for five minutes.
Cut 1 16-ounce kielbasa sausage into 1-inch pieces and stir into the skillet. Cover and cook for 15 more minutes.
For the stewed cabbage recipe, melt 1/4 cup of butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add 2 chopped onions, 1 chopped celery stalk and 2 chopped garlic cloves. Sauté for three to five minutes. Stir in 1 medium head of cabbage, cut into squares. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes.
Pour in a 14.4-ounce can of stewed tomatoes, including the liquid. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Cover the pan and cook over medium heat for 30 to 40 minutes.
