Microwave-baked apples, bread pizzas and roasted carrots are some tasty snack ideas that are quick and easy to make. These recipes require less than 10 minutes to prepare and feature common, easy-to-substitute ingredients.
To make a baked apple in the microwave, remove the peel from about 1/2 inch of the top of a Fuji or gala apple, core the apple, and place it in a microwave-safe bowl with 1/2 cup of water. Fill the center of the apple with a mixture containing 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of butter and 1 teaspoon of raisins. Sprinkle the apple with 1/8 teaspoon of cinnamon. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap, leaving the film loose enough to allow venting, and microwave the apple until soft, about two to five minutes.
Bread pizza is quick, easy and versatile. In its simplest form, this snack features a piece of sandwich bread topped with jarred pizza sauce and a slice of American cheese. A classier variation starts with tomato sauce, oregano and fresh basil, followed by fresh mozzarella, grape tomatoes and corn kernels. These pizzas bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit until the cheese is melted. Other variations include substituting pita bread, tortillas or biscuits for sandwich bread, and topping it with your preferred on-hand sauces and ingredients. Adjust the bake time to suit the type of bread and the toppings.
