Some recipes for making wonton appetizers include cheese and sausage, crab salad, and black bean and corn wontons. Prior to making wonton fillings, press wonton wrappers into the cups of a mini muffin tin, and bake them for five to 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
To make the cheese and sausage wontons, mix 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese, 1 pound of cooked sausage and 2/3 cup of ranch dressing. Place wonton cups on a cookie sheet and spoon the mixture into the cups. Top the cups with 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, and bake them for eight to 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
To make the crab salad wontons, whisk together 1 teaspoon of lime zest, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper and 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil, and whisk until mixed. In a bowl, toss 1/2 pound lump crabmeat, 1 stalk of celery, 1/2 cup diced mango, 1/3 cup sliced scallion and 2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro. Toss the two mixtures together to combine, and fill the wonton cups with the salad.
To make the black bean and corn wontons, mix 2/3 cup chunky-style salsa, 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, 1/2 teaspoon of cumin, 1/2 teaspoon of chili powder, 1 can of drained whole kernel corn and 1 can of drained black beans. Spoon the mixture into wonton cups, and top each cup with 1/2 teaspoon of sour cream.
