Make Grandma Paul's caramel corn by adding 1 cup of butter, 2 cups of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 cup of light corn syrup to a saucepan to make the caramel sauce. Bring the caramel sauce to a boil, and cook for five minutes before removing the sauce from the heat and whisking in 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Toss the sauce with 8 cups of popped popcorn, and pour the caramel corn in a pan. Bake it at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 60 minutes, and allow it to dry out before serving.
To make MyRecipes' caramel popcorn, add 1 tablespoon of molasses to a saucepan along with 1 cup of dark brown sugar, 1/2 cup of corn syrup and 1/3 cup of butter, and bring everything to a boil. After five minutes, remove the pan from the heat, and stir in 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoons of salt and 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla extract. Toss the caramel sauce with 12 cups of popped popcorn, and bake it at 250 degrees Fahrenheit for 60 minutes, stirring often.
