Classic glazed donuts, homemade glazed donuts and easy homemade glazed donut holes are some popular recipes for glazed donuts. Each of these recipes requires deep frying.
To make Food Network's recipe for homemade glazed donuts, combine 1/4 cup granulated sugar and 1 1/8 cup warm whole milk. Add 3 teaspoons dry yeast and let it sit for five to 10 minutes. In a separate bowl, beat two eggs with 1 1/4 sticks melted unsalted butter. Combine all the ingredients in a bowl with an electric mixer. In a separate bowl, combine 4 cups all purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Add the flour mixture to the electric mixing bowl 1/2 cup at a time. Continue mixing for about five minutes after the flour has been combined. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover and refrigerate overnight.
Remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it rise for 1 1/2 to two hours. Roll out the dough roughly 1/4 inch thick and cut into donut shapes. Place the donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with a towel and let rise for another 1 1/2 to two hours.
Fry the donuts in oil or shortening heated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. For the glaze, combine 3 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 teaspoon each salt and vanilla and 1/2 cup cold water. Drop the donuts into the glaze then place them on a rack to drip.
