The fried chocolate sandwich cookie recipe from Emeril Lagasse found on the Food Network website uses Oreos but allows cooks to choose an alternative cream filled chocolate cookie. In addition, AllRecipes.com provides cooks with the deep fried Oreos recipe.
To make fried chocolate sandwich cookies, combine 1 1/4 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/8 teaspoon of salt into a large mixing bowl. In a smaller bowl, whisk 1 large egg and 3/4 cups of milk, and then add the liquid mixture to the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly. Pour vegetable oil into a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan. Be sure the oil is about 1 1/2 inches deep.
Next, heat the oil until the temperature reaches 360 F. Dip each cookie into the batter and gently place into the hot oil. Allow the cookies to fry for about 2 minutes, flip the cookie and fry for another minute. Remove the cookies and place them on a paper towel to remove excess. Dust the fried cookies with confectioners' sugar, if desired, and serve while hot.
To make the deep fried Oreos recipe batter, whisk 1 egg, 1 cup of milk and 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil until smooth. Then, stir in 1 cup of pancake mix until there are no visible lumps. Dip each cookie into the batter and place into a deep-fryer with a temperature of 375 F. Cook for about 2 minutes or until the cookies are a golden brown, drain and serve.
