Some easy, last minute hors d'oeuvres include deviled eggs, loaded potato bites and a shrimp cocktail. These recipes require fewer than 15 minutes of time to prepare, as well as few ingredients or equipment.
Deviled eggs begin with hard-boiled eggs. To make hard-boiled eggs, put eggs in a pot of water, and heat them over a stove until the water boils. Cover and remove the pot from the stove, and let them cook for 10 more minutes. Peel the eggs, cut them in half, and scoop out the yolks into a separate bowl. Add sweet pickle relish to the bowl, yellow mustard and mayonnaise to taste, and mix. Small amounts of salt and pepper round out the flavor. Spoon this mixture into the leftover egg whites and serve.
For loaded potato bites, take mashed potatoes, and mix in cheese, bacon bits, scallions and a little flour. Form the mixture into balls, and coat the balls in bread crumbs after a brief egg wash. Fry the balls in oil for two minutes or until browned. Serve with dipping sauces or salad dressing.
Peel fully cooked and cooled shrimp, leaving the tails intact, and then arrange them on a platter. Serve with basic sauces, such as ranch, cocktail sauce or guacamole.
