A recipe for unstuffed cabbage combines ground beef, tomato sauce, cabbage, onions and garlic in a large skillet. Cook the ingredients until the cabbage is tender, and serve the dish with salad or rice.
Pour 1 tablespoon of olive oil to a large skillet, and warm it over medium heat. Once the oil becomes hot, toss in one large chopped onion. Stir the onion, and add 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of lean ground beef to the skillet. Continue to cook, stirring the meat and onion regularly until the beef is no longer pink. Add one minced garlic clove to the mixture and cook for another minute.
As the meat cooks, chop up one small cabbage. Add it to the meat along with two cans of diced tomatoes, 1 can of tomato sauce and 1 tablespoon of wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Season with 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of sea salt and 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper. Stir everything together, and turn up the heat. Once the ingredients start to boil, turn the temperature down, and cover the pot. Simmer the unstuffed cabbage between 20 and 30 minutes. Once the cabbage is tender, remove the skillet from the stove, and serve.
