A recipe for string bean casserole, also known as green bean casserole, contains green beans, butter, onions, mushrooms and a few other ingredients. This recipe takes 30 minutes to prepare and serves about six people.
To make the string bean casserole, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Melt 1/3 stick of butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, saute 1/2 cup of diced onions and 1/2 cup of sliced mushrooms in the butter. In 3 cups of chicken broth, boil 2 cups of sliced string beans for 10 minutes and drain afterwards.
Place the green beans, one 10-ounce can cream of mushroom soup, one 2.8 ounce can French-fried onion rings and a pinch of house seasoning in the onions, and stir until well-combined. Pour this mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole dish, and bake for about 20 minutes. Place 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese on top of the casserole, and bake for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and the casserole is completely heated through.
To prepare the house seasoning, mix together 1 cup of salt, 1/4 cup of black pepper and 1/4 cup of garlic powder together. This seasoning can be stored in an airtight container for up to six months.
