One recipe for sautéed green beans is that created by Robin Miller from Food Network. The easy recipe makes four servings and takes a total of 15 minutes to prepare including a cook time of 10 minutes.
To prepare the recipe, wash and trim 2 cups of green beans. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a heavy skillet, and saute the green beans until they are soft and tender yet still crisp. Season with black pepper and salt to taste. Just before serving, add 1/4 cup slivered almonds to the skillet, and place it back over the heat. Stir the mixture until the almonds are toasted. Another option is to toast the almonds separately and sprinkle them over the green beans to keep them crunchy and bring out their flavor.
To add some extra flavor to the sautéed green beans, consider mincing a clove of garlic and tossing it into the skillet during the saute process, or crumble in some bacon pieces. Other options include sprinkling in some cayenne pepper, adding chicken or vegetable stock, or tossing in chopped shallots and balsamic vinegar. You can also substitute olive oil for the butter for a more heart-healthy dish. Keep in mind that any liquid ingredients added to the recipe may take from the beans' crisp texture.
