To make an instant Russian tea mix, combine 1/2 cup instant tea powder, 2 cups of an instant orange flavored drink mix, 3 ounces lemon flavored drink mix powder and 3/4 cup white sugar. Add 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice and 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves.
Store the mixture in a jar for future consumption or to give as gifts. When the time comes to drink the Russian tea, place 2 to 3 rounded teaspoons in a cup, add boiling water, and stir.
Another option for making Russian Tea Mix includes Kraft's recipe. Combine 1 cup Tang orange flavor drink mix, 1/3 cup unsweetened instant tea, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves. Stir 1 tablespoon of the mixture with 3/4 cup boiling water until dissolved to make one serving of tea containing 40 calories. To make tea for a crowd, stir 1/3 cup of the mixture in 4 cups boiling water for every 4 servings desired. For some added zing, serve with lemon wedges.
Tea was first introduced to Russia by the Chinese, but Russia created the samovar to serve tea. Russians prefer black tea, but they often add lemon, sugar and fruit preservatives to create new tastes.
