To make a caramel apple shot, pour 1 tablespoon of butterscotch schnapps and 1 tablespoon of apple schnapps into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake, strain into a shot glass and serve.
Caramel apple shots can also be made to serve in actual apple slices. To make caramel apple shot slices, halve and hollow out 10 small apples using a melon baller or spoon. Whisk 1/2 cup of water with 1 envelope of hot chocolate in a saucepan and add 1/2 cup of coconut milk. Sprinkle gelatin over the top and let it sit.
Mix until everything is combined and add 1/4 cup of sugar and 2 drops of yellow food coloring for caramel color. When the mixture is cool, pour in 1/2 cup of butterscotch schnapps and pour the mixture into the apple halves. Refrigerate overnight.
You can change up the caramel apple shot recipe by substituting different liquors or garnishing the drink with extra caramel or an apple slice. Some recipes use a sour apple mix, add salt or turn the shot into a pie-like drink by using whipped cream and cinnamon. Vodka can be combined with the schnapps or used in their place for a caramel apple martini.
