For an easy, delicious banana smoothie, collect two bananas, 1 cup milk and approximately 3 cups of ice. Place all items in the blender, and mix on high for 30 seconds. Pour into waiting glasses, and serve.
When selecting bananas for the smoothie, make sure to pick ones that are fairly ripened, looking for the tell-tale brown flecks on the peel. Otherwise, the smoothie does not have the proper sweetness. When actually blending the mixture, add the ice cubes last so as not to bind up the blades. If consistency of the shake is not ideal after 30 seconds, continue to blend until it is smooth and even. If the texture gets too thick, simply add more milk in small amounts until consistency is ideal.
If regular milk is not preferable, you can substitute another variety, such as low-fat, skim, soy or almond. Additionally, vanilla or plain yogurt works well. To add another dimension of flavor, consider adding additional fruits and juices to the banana smoothie. For example, you might add a cup of frozen mixed berries, 1/4 cup of frozen orange juice or both together. For a touch of extra sweetness, consider 2 teaspoons of brown sugar or a teaspoon of honey.
