One recipe for Jell-O salad with cream cheese, called creamy mandarin orange Jell-O salad, requires five ingredients: mandarin oranges, boiling water, orange Jell-O, lemon juice and softened cream cheese. The recipe takes 20 minutes of hands-on preparation and makes eight servings.
To make creamy mandarin orange Jell-O salad, drain an 11-ounce can of mandarin oranges, reserving 3/4 cup of the juice. In a medium bowl, add 1 cup of boiling water to a 3-ounce package of orange Jell-O, and stir for two minutes or until completely dissolved. Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice and all of the reserved mandarin orange juice. Place 1 1/4 cups of the Jell-O mixture into a greased loaf pan and refrigerate for one hour until the Jell-O is set, but not firm.
Place 6 ounces of cream cheese in a medium bowl, and gradually whisk the remaining Jell-O mixture into the cream cheese. Stir in the mandarin oranges. Spoon the cream cheese mixture gently over the set Jell-O in the loaf pan. Refrigerate for four hours or until the Jell-O is firm. Unmold the Jell-O from the pan before serving.
Other Jell-O salad recipes that contain cream cheese include lime gelatin salad and cran-orange gelatin salad.
