This recipe yields 4-6 portions. For serving, it may be topped with grated cheddar cheese, chopped onions, tortilla chips and lime wedges.

Place the beef and garlic in a large cooking pot and brown over a medium heat.
Drain the fat and add the tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt and cayenne to the beef and garlic. Mix and simmer over a low heat for 1 hour. Add water as required to prevent drying out.
After the mixture has been simmering for an hour, combine the masa harina with 1/2 cup water in a bowl. Once a paste has been created, add it to the cooking pot and stir. More corn flour paste can be added as required for texture and flavor.
Drain and rinse the beans and add to the cooking pot, simmering for a further 10 minutes. Serve hot.
