Prep time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 4 minutes

- 4, 1-inch tuna steaks
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Season the steaks
- Grill the steaks
To season the tuna steaks, brush them on both sides with olive oil and sprinkle the sides with salt and pepper to taste.
Heat up a cast iron skillet or charcoal grill to a high heat. Cook the steaks for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes per side, so that the outside is seared and the center is raw. Let the steaks cool for up to 10 minutes before serving.
For ideal results, use very fresh fillets. If possible, do a sniff test to determine freshness or ask when the catch date was. If fresh steaks are not available, frozen steaks can be a good alternative, as they are often frozen quickly after they are caught.
Tuna steaks are very easy to customize. To create a custom seasoning, experiment with ingredients such as allspice, coriander, cinnamon, tarragon, orange zest, shallots or red onion.
