Betty Crocker's White Decorator Frosting recipe combines 6 1/4 cups of powdered sugar, 3/4 cup of shortening, 1/2 cup of milk and 3/4 teaspoon of clear vanilla or almond extract. The recipe takes about 10 minutes to make, and any extra frosting can be stored in the refrigerator.
In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar and the shortening by hand or using an electric mixer. Add the milk and vanilla, and beat the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth. If the frosting is too thick, add a few extra drops of milk.
Another decorative frosting recipe is located on the Better Homes and Gardens website. The Creamy White Frosting recipe requires 1 cup of shortening, 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla, 1/2 teaspoon of lemon extract, orange extract or almond extract, 4 1/2 cups of sifted powdered sugar and 3 tablespoons of milk. Mix the shortening, vanilla, and lemon, orange or almond extract in a bowl. Once the ingredients are combined, stir in half of the powdered sugar. Next, pour in 2 teaspoons of the milk, and mix the ingredients. Slowly add the remaining powdered sugar and milk until the frosting reaches the desired consistency. This recipe makes about 3 cups of frosting.
