To make cream cheese pinwheels, mix together 2 packages of softened cream cheese with 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup of crumbled, cooked bacon, 1/2 teaspoon each parsley flakes, garlic powder and dill and 1/4 teaspoon onion powder. Spread on a tortilla, roll up, slice crosswise and enjoy.
Cream cheese pinwheels are a versatile lunch or appetizer that can be made in many ways with the addition or substitution of different ingredients. Additionally, flavored tortillas can be used in place of plain, flour ones.
For a baked cream cheese pinwheel, use refrigerated crescent rolls as the base. Mix together 3 ounces of softened cream cheese, 2 tablespoons of finely chopped onion and 1 teaspoon of milk until smooth. Cook 5 strips of bacon, and finely chop. Roll out the crescent roll dough, spread on the cream cheese mixture and sprinkle with bacon. Roll up the dough like a jelly-roll (starting with the long side), and cut crosswise into 24 slices. Place each piece cut-side down on a baking sheet, and bake at 375 F for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Bacon can be substituted for another type of meat or taken out altogether to make a vegetarian treat.
