Food Network has a simple and easy-to-follow recipe for cream cheese Danish using premade puff pastry dough. The recipe adds ricotta cheese and lemon zest for extra flavor.
To make Food Network's cream cheese Danish recipe, preheat the oven to 400 degrees F, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In an electric mixer, mix 8 ounces of room-temperature cream cheese and 1/3 cup sugar on low speed until smooth. Add 2 extra-large egg yolks, 2 tablespoons ricotta cheese, 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt and 1 tablespoon grated lemon zest. Mix until combined.
Unfold 1 10-by-10-inch puff pastry sheet, and cut into quarters using a sharp knife. Place 1 tablespoon cream cheese filling into the middle of each square, and brush the borders of each pastry with egg wash. Fold the opposite corners to the center, slightly overlapping, and brush the top with more egg wash. Make sure the puff pastry is stuck together firmly. Place the pastries on the baking sheet, and repeat with another puff pastry sheet. Refrigerate the filled pastries for 15 minutes, and bake for 20 minutes, rotating the pan once while baking. Serve once the pastries are puffed and brown.
