Add 1/3 cup sunflower seeds. In a separate bowl, combine 2 tablespoons cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons sugar and 1 cup of mayonnaise. Mix the dressing ingredients, then place in the refrigerator and let it stand for about one hour. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss immediately before serving.
For spicy roasted broccoli and sunflower seeds, preheat an oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Combine 1/2 pound of broccoli spears, 1/4 cup of olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon crushed dried red pepper flakes and 1/2 cup of sunflower seeds. Place a large, rimmed baking sheet in the oven for about four minutes or until very hot.
Remove the baking pan from the oven and spread the broccoli mixture evenly over the surface. Place in the oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring once. When the broccoli is tender and slightly browned, remove from the oven and serve.
