Farm Flavor features a recipe for blueberry dump cake made with frozen blueberries, sugar, yellow cake mix, butter and whipped cream. To begin, preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Dump 4 cups of frozen blueberries and 1/2 cup of sugar into a 9-by-13 baking dish, and mix together. Sprinkle 1 box of yellow cake mix over the top of the blueberry and sugar mixture. Slice 1 1/2 sticks of butter, and distribute evenly over the top of the cake mix. Bake for 45 minutes to one hour, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
Alternatively, use 2 cans of blueberry pie filling instead of frozen blueberries and sugar. Sprinkle yellow cake mix over the filling, and add sliced butter evenly over the top. For a crunchy topping, sprinkle shredded coconut on top. Bake for 45 minutes to one hour, or until light golden brown. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
A dump cake is classified as a cake with all the ingredients dumped together and baked. This cake could be made with other fruit bases, including strawberries, cherries, lemon curd and pineapple. Some bakers choose to use mixtures of several different fruits.
