There are several baked macaroni and cheese recipes that contain bacon, such as one found on FoodNetwork.com. This recipe uses penne pasta, garlic, bacon, Cheddar cheese, butter, flour, milk and onion. The normal recipe serves about four to six people. It takes about 45 minutes to prepare, all together.
To make baked macaroni and cheese with bacon, first gather two slices of bacon, 8 ounces of penne pasta, one onion, one clove of garlic, 3 cups of shredded Cheddar cheese, 2 tablespoons of butter, 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and 2 cups of milk. Preheat the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. While the oven is preheating, cook the bacon in a skillet, drain it and crumble it, setting it aside. Pour the penne in a large pot of boiling salted water, cooking until al dente, then drain the pasta.
Sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic in a medium skillet. Add the bacon, and set the pan aside. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan, add the flour and stir constantly for two minutes. Steadily add the milk and continue stirring until thickened. Add 2 cups of the grated cheese, and stir until melted. Combine the cooked ingredients and pour into a 2 quart casserole dish. Add the remaining cheese over the top.
Bake uncovered for 15 to 20 minutes, until the cheese on top is melted and brown. Serve while the meal is still warm.
