Basic Cake With Buttercream Frosting Recipe
A simple white vanilla cake is very easy to make from scratch. Bakers can use the recipe to make whole cakes or cupcakes. Buttercream frosting makes a delicious topping.

Ready in: 1 hour
Grease an 8-inch pan and set it aside. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Use a sifter to mix the flour, baking powder and salt together. Sift the dry ingredients into a bowl.
Beat the butter into the flour mixture, adding it to the bowl gradually. Continue beating and slowly add the sugar. Beat the eggs into the mixture separately, mix in the milk and vanilla and blend all the ingredients together to make a batter.
Add the batter to the cake pan and bake for 30 to 35 minutes. To see if the cake is finished, poke the center with a wooden skewer. If it comes out clean, the cake is done.
Let the cake cool for 5 minutes. Blend the 1 stick softened butter, 4 1/2 cups powdered sugar, 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract and 5 tbsp. milk together to make the frosting. Add the frosting to the cake.
