A safe way to quickly thaw frozen shrimp is to place it in a colander and run the shrimp under cold water until it is no longer frozen. Alternatively, it can be thawed overnight in a refrigerator, but this is a much slower method.
While the shrimp is in the colander, a person should run their hands through the shrimp and the cold water to remove any extra ice flakes, and also to check that the shrimp is no longer frozen. It is not advisable to let shrimp thaw at room temperature because of the risk of spoiling. Putting shrimp under warm or hot water to thaw will inadvertently cook the shrimp.
