Apart from eating the "slop" with soft buns, the beef mixture can also be served over pasta.

Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat and then add the onion, bell pepper and celery. Season with salt and pepper according to taste. Stir frequently for about 5 to 7 minutes or until the vegetables have softened.
Add the ground beef into the vegetable mixture. Break up the beef with a wooden spoon and cook until the meat has lost its pink color, which is about 6 to 8 minutes.
Pour the tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce and ketchup into the skillet and stir. Reduce the heat to simmer and cook until the sauce has thickened.
Season the beef mixture with salt and ground pepper according to taste. Spoon into the hamburger buns or serve with pasta.
