Bacardi Superior rum is bottled at 80 proof. It is a clear rum that is aged in white oak barrels and filtered through charcoal to erase all indications of color.
Production of Bacardi Superior rum began in 1861 when Bacardi founder Don Facundo Bacardi founded his distillery in Santiago, Cuba. Bacardi set out to master the techniques of rum making, and was the first craftsman to refine rum by filtering through charcoal filters. Bacardi Superior rum is known for its transparent color, alluring caramel and floral scents, and fiery blend of flavors. As of 2015, Bacardi Rum Distillery operates from its main distillery located in Puerto Rico.
