"Do Us A Flavor" is one contest that has been held by Frito-Lay chips. The company asks consumers to send in their own unique chip flavor ideas, for a chance to win $1 million.
In 2013, Karen Weber-Mendham of Wisconsin won the contest with her potato chip flavor suggestion of cheesy garlic bread. Three finalists were initially chosen, and their chip flavors entered stores for the public to taste and then vote on a favorite. Online and social media became flooded with votes for cheesy garlic bread chips as soon as the product hit the shelves. In total there were 3.8 million entries.
In 2014, there were a total of 14 million submissions for the "Do Us A Flavor" contest. Menecko Spigner McBeth won the contest with her idea for Lay's Kettle Cooked Wasabi Ginger-flavored chips.
In July 2015, Frito-Lay selected four finalists for the yearly flavor competition. One of the finalists, Angie Fu, submitted the idea for Lay's Wavy West Coast Truffle Fries. Travel agent Hailey Green became a finalist for her idea of Lay's Southern Biscuits and Gravy chips. Another finalist, Jeff Solensky, submitted the idea for Lay's New York Reuben-flavored chips. The fourth finalist, James Wagner, submitted the idea for Lay's Kettle Cooked Greektown Gyro chips.
