Powerade does not contain caffeine. The beverage is designed to hydrate the body. Caffeine is a diuretic, which means it causes the body to lose water.
Powerade helps the body to replenish calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium after these elements are lost in sweat due to vigorous activity. While Powerade is not a substitute for water, it can restore electrolytes that are lost when the body sweats. As of 2014, Powerade is available in flavors that include fruit punch, grape, lemon-lime and melon. Powerade Zero is the no-calorie version of Powerade. Powerade Zero drops, which are added to water, are available in fruit punch, orange and mountain berry blast flavors.
