Poultry is a group of consumable domesticated or wild fowl. This group includes chicken, turkeys, pheasants, geese, ducks, guinea fowl, ostriches, rheas and emus. Individuals consume the eggs and meat of poultry.
Poultry eggs are generally consumed fried, poached, scrambled or as binding ingredients in sweet and savory dishes, such as frittatas, quiches, casseroles, cakes and pies. Poultry meat is usually consumed roasted, baked, braised, fried, steamed or grilled. Poultry farm owners raise the different types of fowl for human or animal consumption. Some types of poultry are also considered "show" birds. These birds compete for money and prizes based upon their appearance and unusual visual characteristics.
