Distillers produce rum from molasses and other sugarcane by-products. The bulk of rum production takes place in the Caribbean and Latin America. To make dark rum, distillers use caramelized sugar or molasses and age the product for longer periods of time.
A popular rum cocktail is the Dark ’N Stormy, which is made with 2 ounces of dark rum, 3 ounces of ginger beer and 1/2 ounce of lime juice.
