The Food Network's macaroni and cheese and Taste of Home's sugar cookies are two popular recipes. The sugar cookies take less time to make than the macaroni and cheese.
To make macaroni and cheese, cook 1 pound of elbow macaroni in salted and oiled water according to package instructions. Melt 6 tablespoons of butter in a pot and stir in 1/2 cup of flour. Cook the mixture for two minutes over low heat, stirring constantly. Stir in 1 quart of hot milk and cook for one to two minutes.
Remove the mixture from heat and stir in 12 ounces of Gruyere cheese, 8 ounces of Cheddar cheese, 1 tablespoon of salt, 1/2 teaspoon of pepper and 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg, as well as the cooked macaroni. Transfer to a baking dish and top with 3/4 pound of sliced tomatoes. Mix 1 1/2 cups of fresh bread crumbs with two tablespoons of melted butter and sprinkle the mixture over the macaroni. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit.
To make sugar cookies, beat 1 cup of butter with 1 cup of oil, 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1 cup of powdered sugar. Beat in two eggs and 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Combine 4 1/2 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda and 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar. Slowly add the dry mixture to the wet mixture. Drop teaspoonfuls of the dough onto baking sheets and bake at 375 Fahrenheit for eight to 10 minutes.
