The Pioneer Woman does not have a shepherd's pie recipe, as of May 2015. Neither the television show nor the website features any recipe for shepherd's pie. An alternate Food Network show that does feature a shepherd's pie recipe is "Paula's Home Cooking."
To make Paula Deen's recipe for shepherd's pie, chop 1 small onion and saut? it in 2 tablespoons of butter. Add 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef to the saut?ed onions, and cook until browned; add two 8-ounce cans of tomato sauce and 1 1/2 cups of mixed vegetables to the cooked beef. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Peel and slice 8 to 10 medium new potatoes into 1/4-inch slices. Boil the sliced potatoes for 15 minutes or until tender. Whip them with an electric mixer until moderately smooth, and add 1/2 cup heated milk, 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup sour cream. Whip until mixed, and adjust the thickness, if desired, by adding more milk. When the potato mixture is complete, combine 2 cups instant biscuit mix with 1 cup milk in a separate container.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9-by-9-inch pan or casserole dish, and add the mashed potatoes. Spread 1/2 cup mixed vegetables over the potato layer, then pour the ground beef mixture over the vegetables. Pour the biscuit mix over the ground beef, and drizzle 4 tablespoons of melted butter over the biscuit mix. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes or until golden brown.
