Paula Deen's peach cobbler recipe calls for 4 cups peeled and sliced peaches, 2 cups sugar, divided, 1/3 cup water, 8 tablespoons butter, 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour and 1 1/2 cups milk. Ground cinnamon is an optional ingredient.
Preheat an oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Over medium heat, combine the sliced peaches, 1 cup of sugar and water in a saucepan. Mix well. Bring the pot to a boil, and then let it simmer for 10 minutes. Remove the pan from heat, and set aside.
Slice the butter into chucks, and place them into a 3-quart baking dish. Put the dish in the oven for a few minutes, and let the butter melt. Mix the rest of the sugar, flour and milk into a medium bowl. Be sure to mix the ingredients together slowly, or else they may clump. Pour the flour mixture over the melted better. Spoon the peaches and sugar mixture slowly in the baking dish on top of the flour mixture. Do not stir.
If so desired, sprinkle the cobbler with ground cinnamon to taste, then bake the cobbler for 30 to 45 minutes. Scoop the cobbler on a plate, and serve with a side of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. This recipe serves between eight and 10 people.
