Make the original Nilla wafer recipe by whisking together 2 3.4-ounce packages of vanilla instant pudding and 3 cups of cold milk. While allowing the pudding to set for five minutes, layer 15 Nilla wafers into the bottom of a glass serving dish. On top of the wafers, spread half the pudding and 1 1/2 sliced bananas. Repeat the process for the second layer, and top the pudding with 8 ounces of frozen whipped topping. Chill the dessert for three hours before serving.
To make Kraft's baked banana pudding recipe, combine 1/2 cup of sugar, 1/3 cup of flour, 3 egg yolks, 2 cups of milk and 1 dash of salt in a double boiler or in a bowl placed over a pot of boiling water, heat for up to 12 minutes. Once the pudding thickens, stir in 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla, and remove it from the stove. Starting with the custard, layer it, 12 vanilla wafers, and 1/3 of 5 sliced bananas in a baking dish.
Repeat the process for three layers. Top the pudding with 3 egg whites beaten to stiff peaks combined with 1/4 cup of sugar. Bake the pudding at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 20 minutes, and garnish it with 12 more wafers.
