Some unprocessed foods are fruits and vegetables, dairy products, seeds and nuts. Although the definition of processed foods is not completely concrete, there are some general characteristics of processed foods. Processed foods are usually packaged in cans or boxes and have considerably longer ingredient lists than unprocessed foods.
A good rule to follow is to only eat things that a person could make at home. Also, most unprocessed foods are found on the edges of the grocery store, while the processed foods are usually in the center. For recipes, some good unprocessed sweetener options are honey, real maple syrup and fruit juice concentrates.
